The Lexmark x1270 All-In-One features a USB hub which contains the scanner and the printer as separate USB devices. Then you can try and install separate drivers for them. Lexmark has developed the Linux Printer Development Kit (LLPDDK) which theoretically provides libraries needed to develop further printer/AIO drivers. However, I have not seen many drivers around as you could get with this kind of support from the manufacturer. There seems to be a lack of interest in the community in the development of these drivers.
The x1270 is not
Make sure to also download the version 2.0 of the specific LLPDDK Libraries for the z600.
It is important for you to read carefully the terms of all license agreements included with the packages.
For the driver to work properly, you will need version 8.3 of the Tcl programming language and the Tk GUI toolkit. More info on www.tcl.tk. After installing the rpm packages, add the Lexmark printer to your CUPS with the new driver.
The lexmark scanner backend currently does not support the x1270. I reconfigured the backend to detect the scanner USB device, using the standard configuration file. Programs like scanimage or xsane hang with this device-backend combination, and the scanner module of the All-In-One produces weird noises.
I downloaded the usb scanner drivers; the big problem is that the source code is written for the 2.4 kernel, and I run the 2.6.18 version. Things like modversion.h and struct usb_driver change significantly from 2.4 to 2.6; after some time changing the source code, checking the syntax and the links with the Kernel code, the driver did not work.
Buttons do not work. It seems they are software-controlled.
